Mission Complete — Artemis II

NASA's Artemis II mission successfully completed on April 10, 2026, with the Orion spacecraft splashing down in the Pacific Ocean after a 212-hour journey. Orion — callsign “Integrity” — flew a free-return lunar trajectory, reaching a maximum distance of approximately 400,000 km from Earth before returning. It was the first time humans had traveled to the Moon since Apollo 17 in December 1972.

Artemis II Crew

Commander Reid Wiseman (NASA), Pilot Victor Glover (NASA), Mission Specialist Christina Koch (NASA), and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (CSA / Canadian Space Agency). Jeremy Hansen became the first Canadian to travel beyond low Earth orbit. Christina Koch became the first woman to travel to the Moon.

Mission Highlights

Launch: April 1, 2026 at 22:35 UTC from Kennedy Space Center aboard SLS Block 1. Lunar closest approach: approximately 9,200 km from the lunar surface. Maximum Earth distance: ~400,000 km. Mission duration: approximately 212 hours (about 9 days). Splashdown: April 10, 2026, Pacific Ocean. The mission served as a dress rehearsal for Artemis III, the first crewed lunar landing.

This site archives the complete Artemis II flight trajectory from launch through splashdown. Position and velocity data are sourced from JPL Horizons, NASA's solar system ephemeris service. State vectors are recorded in the J2000 Earth-centered inertial frame. About Artemis III

Artemis III will be the first crewed lunar landing since Apollo 17. Astronauts will land near the lunar south pole, a region of scientific interest for its permanently shadowed craters that may contain water ice. A launch date has not yet been announced. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan, double-click to reset. Switch to MOON or EARTH view for close-approach detail, or SUN for the heliocentric solar system view showing Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.
